Mitlenatch Island
Mitlenatch Island Provincial
Park is a 155-acre nature
preserve southeast of
Quadra, home to the largest
seabird colony in the
Strait
of Georgia.
The island
is a rocky playground for river otters, harbour seals, Steller’s and California
sea lions. Its semi-arid climate favours prickly pear cactus and
trembling aspen. Once host to a Shetland farmer’s sheep and cattle.
Mitlenatch’s first inhabitants were the Coast Salish people who lived
there seasonally to harvest seafood and gull eggs. The island is now
protected for the flora and fauna of the Salish Sea, but still welcomes
human visitors! 6 hrs • Adults $99 • Kids under 12 $79
